The Spanish Carbon Group (GEC) was created in the year 1990 by the common effort of a group of people, companies as well as public and private institutions linked with science, technology and the use and applications of all kinds of carbon materials, coal and its derivatives. Currently, special emphasis is being put on its use on environmental and energy applications, as well as the development of new nanostructured materials.

Some of the most outstanding aims of the GEC are: promoting the relationships between Spanish groups of research, helping the training of new researchers and technicians in this field of knowledge, spreading science, technology or any other aspect related to carbon materials, becoming a meeting point for researchers, students, producers and users.

Since 1992, The GEC organizes biannual scientific conferences under the common title of “Meeting of the GEC”. Besides, it belongs to the European Carbon Association, ECA, responsible for the organization of the International Carbon Conference of Europe (CARBON), which takes place every three years in this continent, in combination with the CARBON that are held, every other three years too, in Asia and the United States.
